Tom Bordonaro was our guest speaker last meeting. Tom is a former Republican California State Assemblyman, 1994-1998. He was the first person who used a wheelchair to be elected to the State Assembly. Tom has also served as treasurer of the San Luis Obispo Country Republican Central Committee, President of the CRP Treasurers’ Association, President of the Central Coast Taxpayers’ Association, and is currently serving as the County Assessor for SLO County.

In a “nut shell” his office discovers, determines, and values taxable property under state laws. Under the current declining market his work-load has increased. As the market drops assessors need to go out to re-evaluate and adjust to current market values.

Tom said last year they looked at approximately 41,000 homes and lowered taxes on approximately 31,000.

For more information, forms and facts about exemptions and exclusions, and assessment relief, visit the County Assessor website at www.slocounty.ca.gov/assessor.
