Jim Shivers, Public Information Officer for Caltrans District 5, was our program speaker last meeting. Jim gave us an update on several Caltran projects in the county that included:
--Hwy 46 East newly paved lanes are not final. There will be a final paving before the project is complete.
--Regarding the Vineyard interchangeat 101, Caltrans is waiting on an "encroachment permit" to complete the landscaping.
--A new project is in the mill, the "Atascadero Paving Project." This will begin this Spring and will re-pave Hwy 101, both directions, from 101/58 separation to Traffic Way. It's a $33 million dollar project with the money coming from the Federal Stimulus Plan-Recovery Act.
--The Hwy 101/41 project in Atascadero is scheduled to be complete by the end of the year, as well as the first phase of Hwy 46 widening from Airport Road to Geneseo. The second phase, Geneseo to Almond Drive, will begin by the end of the year.
Jim said that SLO County is the lead on proposed interchange projects along 101 at Main Street and Las Tablas in Templeton.
One last item (just in) for the benefit of Rex, Caltrans has sprayed a pre-emergent herbicide, targeting yellow-star thistle and mustard, on all locations on Route 46 that do not have grapes growing adjacent to the Right of Way.
Jim’s final words, “Slowdown for the Cone Zones”, that’s a Caltrans employee’s “office.”
