John Neil moved to Californiain 1982 and is currently the General Manager for the Atascadero Mutual Water Company. John is a member of the Atascadero Rotary Club and was our guest speaker at our last meeting.
The Atascadero Mutual Water Company is the oldest business in Atascadero started by a remarkable visionary named E. G. Lewis in 1913.
The company is run by its shareholders, all land owners in Atascadero, and is a private, not public, utility. All decisions are made in the interest of the shareholders. It is a nonprofit business and able to deliver water at cost. Most mutual water companies are small with 30 or 40 served. The Atascadero Mutual Water Company is the largest of its kind and serves over 29,000 residents with over 10,000 connections (240 miles of pipe).
