Carolyn Novak presented a program to our club last week on “Disaster Preparedness.”  Carolyn is the Public Affairs Coordinator of the County Red Cross Chapter. She visits many service clubs and organizations in the county to enlighten and encourage us to be aware and to get involved, because you never know when a disaster may happen.

The Red Cross has been “helping local residents prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies since 1917.” Red Cross Volunteers, in the county, donated 8,522 hours of service (an in-kind value of more than $172,500.00) in only two months this past summer.

Carolyn encouraged us to “Be Red Cross Ready” by practicing three easy steps: 1) Get a kit, 2) Make a plan, and 3) Be informed.  For more information and some good emergency check lists go to www.slo-redcross.org.

Horse Show Food Table Project, Good Stuff!

The SLO California Dressage Society held their annual Adult Amateur Championship Show this past Labor Day Weekend at Golden Hills Farm in Paso Robles. Our club was on hand to provide the riders, guests and show volunteers with lunch Saturday and Sunday. Some of the feedback that I received from the show coordinators, and Dorreene Gillmore (owner of the training facility) was that it was the "best lunch" any group had provided in the 10 years they have been showing here. Good job Templeton Rotary! And a special thanks to Steve Hinton for coming early on Saturday to help setup and stayed throug the lunch rush. Other members involved were, Jane, LynnJean, JeffBill, Patti (Bill's wife), Della (family friend), and Sally K. (my wife) who did all the planning and purchasing, menus and barn coordination (I did a few things too). It would not have gone so well without all of you. Thanks!  View more photos of the day at Golden Hills Farm.
