Tuesday, July 28, 2009. Frank Mecham, First District Supervisor, was our program speaker and he gave an interesting and informative talk on the “State of the County.”

Supervisor Mecham shared some of his personal and professional thinking on issues facing our communities and county. Like the theme of Rotary this year he would like to put the programs for the communities in the hands of the communities.  He stated that it is his desire, “not to impose programs on communities but to ask the communities what they want and need first.”  He said that each city, county and community must first think about what they are “able to do” with the “resources available” to them before doing anything.

Regarding the county and state budget issues, Mecham said that he hopes we don’t just “kick the can down the road,” but actually do something about it.

He said if there is a “silver lining” in our economic challenges it would be that it’s causing people to “think differently.”

Referencing water use and waste issues in the county, he said that there needs to be less “finger pointing” and more participation and collaboration to work toward solutions. (Photos submitted by Brent Watson)

"Reach One, Keep One"

The RI Board of Directors adopted a new membership slogan, "Each Rotarian: Reach One, Keep One," at its June meeting.

"Reach One reminds us that because Rotary membership is by invitation, it's essential that each Rotarian reaches out and invites someone to join,"

"Keep One reminds us that it's not sufficient to simply sponsor someone into Rotary; we must also see that new members become active and involved Rotarians. We know this is an essential element in membership retention." Read more...  Susan is our "Drector of Membership". Send her an email and take the challenge to Reach One and Keep One!
